Striving to Help Women, Infants, and Children

DUE TO COVID-19, WE ARE PROVIDING CURBSIDE SERVICE ONLY. CALL US FOR AN APPOINTMENT AND WHEN YOU ARRIVE GIVE US A CALL OR RING OUR DOORBELL. WE’LL COME OUT TO YOU.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children – better known as the WIC Program – serves to safeguard the health of pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. Nutritious foods are provided to supplement diets.

To become a WIC participant; you also must meet income guidelines which can be found on the WIC website at louisianawic.org or contact the WIC office. Families that have proof of enrollment in Medicaid, or receive SNAP, or TANF automatically meet the income guidelines.

At CareSouth, our WIC services not only focus on nutritious foods, but we also provide nutrition education tailored to the specific needs of the participant; Breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to other health and social services are provided.
For infants, the foods provided may include: infant formula, infant fruits/vegetables and infant cereal. Women and children may receive cereals low in sugar and high in iron, low fat milk, cheese, yogurt, juice, eggs, peanut butter, canned or dried beans/peas, whole grains, canned tuna/salmon, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

The use of the new WIC EBT card implemented in September 2019 makes it easier for the participant to purchase as much or as little of the foods provided monthly.

Please stop by any of our WIC offices or give us a call for more details.
